All Beautiful Things

Artwork by Emily Richards

A Bit About Me

I am Emily Richards and I am a teacher with a degree in Textile Design based in my home art studio Salisbury. I set up my business All Beautiful Things at the start of 2023 to finally fulfil my dream of spending more time creating art, I feel everything I have done in my life has led me to this, I can truly say I love creating my work and spend my happiest moments doing so. From a young age I have felt no greater pleasure than creating and making, I love exploring new mediums, creating in both 2D and 3D and many of my hobbies include learning craft skills, which I love to combine.

As you will see my artworks are very much inspired by the beauty of colour, and the magic of the natural world. My work reflects my love of colour, pattern and detail which is evident in all aspects of my life and identity. My inspirations include the work of the artists in the Art Nouveau Movement, with it's natural forms, decorative pattern and sinuous curves of plants and flowers, and Eastern European and Mexican Folk Art and craft, with it's intricate paper cuts, stylized florals and vibrant colours. I aim to create art that I hope will lift your spirits and fill your heart and home with happiness.

My current works are either acrylic paintings overlaid with acrylic paint pen drawing or Gel plate printed artworks, enhanced with collage and paint pen drawing. From these original works, I make reproduction prints and cards. My wooden freestanding or wall mounted artworks are all completely individual and unique (I never make the exact same one twice) , also painted in acrylic and have added drawn elements

                                               As Wassily Kandinsky said:
“Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.”

Teaching
I started out by completing a degree in Textile and surface pattern design, initially working as a silk screen printer before becoming a Primary Teacher with a specialism in art. Over the 20 years I have been teaching I have delivered training for trainee and qualified teachers on projects, and delivery of art in schools. I am now fortunate enough to teach primary art on a daily basis and have a passion for supporting others in learning the skills to enable them to connect with their creativity.

All Things Beautiful

Throughout this year my business has expanded, with a successful line in Iota on Gloucester road, Bristol and cards being sold in the The Fisherton Mill Salisbury, where I also run workshops. This year I also have many markets booked after a couple of Christmas markets where I had very successful sales, with my cards, prints and wooden artworks. My Etsy shop is AllBeautifulThingsER, where you can buy a range of artworks, cards, card packs and prints.
My aim for All Things Beautiful is that it will develop and evolve over time to include a range of products that are beautiful and joyous, for you and your home. Through my website I am also offering opportunities for you to learn how to create your own beautiful artworks and connect with your creative self through in person workshops. I have also recently sourced a company to make bespoke wooden shapes from my designs that I then paint my artworks onto..... watch this space!!

“Art will never be able to exist without nature.” ~ Pierre Bonnard

Sustainability
My prints and greetings cards are printed on uncoated card stock made from 100% recycled, de-inked post-consumer waste, certified by FSC®. The card I use is processed chlorine free (PCF), significantly reducing water contamination from processing. I do not use plastic sleeves for my cards either and instead have card catchers to keep them with their recycled envelope. I use acid free tissue paper to wrap and recyclable brown paper bags to package my items for customers. I also generally use recycled packaging when sending to customers to reduce wastage. In addition, my display boards and plinths, for my market stalls, have all been made (by myself) from off cuts and boards sourced from Wiltshire scrap store. I am a great believer in upcycling, nothing goes to waste in my house!

Thank you for taking the time to read my vision, I hope you enjoy my gallery of images below ....

Spend time discovering the wonderful world of gel plate printing and exploring your creative potential. Mono printing using a gel Plate is simple and fun and doesn’t require a printing press, which enables you to take the skills you learn on during this workshop and easily use them in your own time at home. With gel plate printing gratification is immediate, and every print is completely unique. Prints can then be enhanced using mixed media such as drawing, collage and additional print methods. The resulting one-off prints are richly layered and can be colourful or subtle depending on your choice. The soft sensitive surface allows detailed textures such as plants or woven fabrics to be replicated easily into your designs. All possibilities will be fully demonstrated so that you feel confident to produce prints and use your own ideas in this experimental workshop. Help will be given when needed to make sure you learn and are able to take away the skills necessary to continue this great form of printing beyond the day. You will also have choice in how they are presented and taken away for e.g. as greetings cards, mounted prints, present tags. During the workshop you will be introduced to the basic methods of ‘inking’ your plate and transferring the print to paper. You will be shown a variety of methods to add layers of interest, colour, image and pattern to your work using stencils, mark making tools and handmade texture plates. Then, it’s time to unleash your creativity and create your own beautiful imagery. You can expect to make many prints during the session. You will leave this workshop having produced a selection of prints that can be used as they are or developed further using mixed media.
